Both Ends (6) : Gower Branch Canal

The Gower Branch Canal is a short canal that links the old and new Birmingham Main Lines. The half mile long canal branches off the Birmingham New Main Line at Albion Junction.
The other end of the canal connects to the Birmingham Old Main Line at Brades Hall Junction via a triple "staircase" lock or 3 locks close together anyway.

The canal was built in 1836 and allowed boats coming (or going to) the Netherton Canal to get to the old main line without a long detour.

Gower Branch Canal

The Gower Branch Canal is a nice little canal that links the old and new Main Lines. It is only a half of a mile long and runs from Albion to Brades Hall Junctions. One notable feature about it is the so-called staircase lock at Brades Hall.

A journey around the Black Country

Up until most most of my canal walking have been in the East of Birmingham so i decided it was high time i went out to the (wild?) West. I started off going along the Wednesbury Old Canal from Belper Bridge to Pudding Green Junction. Then along the Birmingham New Main Line to Albion Junction where i went the full length of the Gower Branch Canal (its only a short canal). Then i went along the Birmingham Old Main Line to Oldbury Junction. Finally a short stretch of the Titford Canal. And now i need a rest!
