Rushall canal

Time for one more photo shoot this year! I've been wanting to take some photos along the Rushall canal in Walsall ever since i went to Rushall junction in the Summer (where the canal meets the Tame Valley) and today i have achieved that ambition! Photos from Bell Bridge to the intriguing Moat Bridge.

Merry Christmas

Xmas dinner was at a restaurant on Broad St so why not take a few pics beforehand? The canal is a little less ice bound than out by my home in the suburbs!

Snow, ice and fog

Merry Christmas to all, i took a few photos along the B'ham & Fazeley near my house earlier. Much of the canal is frozen over and the fog adds to the bleak scene!

At the end of the Wyrley & Essington is this boat yard.

One way ride

Hopefully this conveyor belt system is just situated over the Tame Valley Canal by co-incidence and not because someone is aiming to dump something on top of a passing boat?

Once a bridge?

What is this curious structure on the Birmingham Main Line just down from Rotton Park Junction, i am assuming there was once a bridge here and this is all that is left?

Foxton Locks in Leicestershire drained for canal work

"Half-a-million gallons of water have been drained from a historic canal lock to allow essential maintenance work to go ahead. Work on the 200-year-old Foxton Locks near Market Harborough started on Wednesday.

The complex of 10 locks will be closed to boaters until December 18. The section of the Leicester Line of the Grand Union Canal, is one of Leicestershire's top tourist attractions..."

The caterpillar of a moth is among rare species recorded on Scotland's 137 mile long canal network during a British Waterways' wildlife survey. The garden tiger moth caterpillar was spotted by lock keeper Sandy Paton on the Forth and Clyde Canal near Grangemouth..

"A PENSIONER today pleaded not guilty to manslaughter after an alleged "canal rage" incident.

David Shiels, 72, of Blackpool, denied the unlawful killing of David Tweddle, 56, from Carlisle, Cumbria, on July 15 this year.

Mr Tweddle, a dad-of-two, was found collapsed on a narrowboat in Garstang, Lancs.

It is understood he had earlier been involved in a row with another boat user on the Lancaster Canal..."

Industry and leisure

At one side of the Grand Union you see rusting relics of an industrial past and the other side benches depicting the leisure future. Or something like that.
