Well it had to end one day, and where better than where it all started in September 2009. Now in 2025, this photograph has been taken nearly exactly where the 2009 one was taken, and thats a wrap! The canal here has not changed all that much in sixteen years, apart from some tree growth.

If my lunchtime walks usually were as far as College Road Bridge, they always started at this bridge.
In the 2000s i worked at the university in Perry Barr. At lunchtimes i started walking along the nearby canal, the Tame Valley Canal. In 2009 i began this blog showing the things i saw along the canal. Usually, on my lunchtime walks i would go as far as this bridge.
After sixteen years and thousands of posts it is finally time to bring this waterways blog to an end (my waterway adventures are continuing on my dedicated website of course). So, what shall we do for the final week? Well it has to be the canal where it all began, the Tame Valley Canal. Let's go!
Once these would have been thriving wharves and warehouses with goods, now they are fancy flats!
The Merseyrail Northern Line crosses over Stanley Lock 3.
And here is a Merseyrail Class 777 crossing over the bridge...
We return to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal this week, heading towards Stanley Dock and the Mersey.
Looking more like a forbidding frontier in the Cold War, we cross Old Quay Swingbridge again.
Probably the mightiest boat we have seen on the canals, on this blog anyway, MSC Buffalo heads through.

Where the Belgrave Circle Arm splits off from the main canal.
Staying with the Grand Union Canal this week, but moving north to Leicester and the Soar Navigation.
We return to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal this week, now we have turned right and are heading towards the Mersey.
As the name implies, this aqueduct takes the canal over a road.
Cool down during this heat wave with a return to Whatstandwell and the Cromford Canal in somewhat cooler and wetter weather!
