Rushall canal

Time for one more photo shoot this year! I've been wanting to take some photos along the Rushall canal in Walsall ever since i went to Rushall junction in the Summer (where the canal meets the Tame Valley) and today i have achieved that ambition! Photos from Bell Bridge to the intriguing Moat Bridge.

Merry Christmas

Xmas dinner was at a restaurant on Broad St so why not take a few pics beforehand? The canal is a little less ice bound than out by my home in the suburbs!

Snow, ice and fog

Merry Christmas to all, i took a few photos along the B'ham & Fazeley near my house earlier. Much of the canal is frozen over and the fog adds to the bleak scene!

Tame Valley in the murk

As it was very foggy in the midlands yesterday i decided to take some photos along the Tame Valley in the fog, unfortunately by the time i got there the fog was clearing fast but the resulting photos are still pretty murky!

On the Digbeth Branch Canal, spotted at Digbeth Junction looking towards Typhoo Basin.

Hopefully this conveyor belt system is just situated over the Tame Valley Canal by co-incidence and not because someone is aiming to dump something on top of a passing boat?

Canals of Digbeth and beyond

New photoshoots were taken this morning, firstly the Digbeth Branch Canal from Aston Junction to Digbeth Junction. Then the Grand Union from where it meets the Digbeth Canal at the Banana Warehouse.

At Ogley Junction. The branch leads to a basin. No doubt the site for a future expedition.

On the Birmingham Main Line, nature has triumphantly reclaimed this old chimney.

Freeth Bridge

Freeth Bridge on the Tame Valley Canal, i must get around to walking along the top of this bridge one day, now closed to traffic and a footbridge only apparently.

Once a bridge?

What is this curious structure on the Birmingham Main Line just down from Rotton Park Junction, i am assuming there was once a bridge here and this is all that is left?

Here the Wyrley & Essington branches off to the Anglesey Basin though the main canal itself terminates here now.

Wyrley & Essington Canal 21/11/09

Went up to Brownhills this morning to take some photos along the Wyrley & Essington (a new canal for me), i went from the Anchor Bridge up to Ogley Junction where the canal ends (apart from a branch to a basin) though one day the canal will continue on to Lichfield again.

For a change i hit the centre of the BCN and took some photos down the Birmingham Main Line as far as the wonderfully named Rotton Park Junction.

One feature of the Tame Valley Canal i really like is this aqueduct over an M5 sliproad.

From Broad Balk Bridge to Curdworth Tunnel

Finally some new photos! Walked along the Birmingham & Fazeley Canal this morning from near Broad Balk Bridge up to the Curdworth Tunnel. I would have gone further but the towpath was quickly turning into a quagmire.

Industry and leisure

At one side of the Grand Union you see rusting relics of an industrial past and the other side benches depicting the leisure future. Or something like that.

Very happy to see this yesterday, Hamster is the name and it appears to be a working barge complete with it's own mechanical digger. Perhaps for canal maintenance?
